Folk-Style Wrestling

Blood, sweat, and tears these things are required to become a champion. Folk-style wrestling is commonly seen at the high school and college level. It requires a great deal of technique and skills. In simplest terms the whole objective of wrestling is to get your opponent to their back.
*Warning this is not an EXCITING blog. This is just a basic out-line to what I will be teaching through out the season.

Hello to everyone reading my post my name is Dan and I’m writing about Folk-Style wrestling and my thoughts on what should be coach to incoming freshmen at the High School level.

I started wrestling my freshmen year so by now I have 5 years of experience in Folk-Style. I have little to no knowledge about Greco-Roman or Free-Style wrestling. I know most of you are thinking that 5 years is nothing, but I was lucky enough to have coaches that have been around this sport for decades.  I was always a quick learner and had a good memory for locking in new techniques. I did have plenty of faults which also add to my expertise; from these experiences I know what to do and not to. I do have regrets about how I ended my senior year, but other than questioning my choices I’m going to attempt to be a source of motivation for the new wrestlers that have a true passion for the sport, and want to take it to the next level.

Just to reiterate, my posts are going to be about what incoming freshmen (with zero experience) should be taught. This post is going to be extremely basic.
*If anyone would like to give tips or advice feel free to leave comments.
First day of practice, I’m going to be throwing in all the new fishes (people with no experience or someone who just sucks!) to the deep end when it comes to conditioning. I want to spot out the weak links and slackers. I know not everyone is an athlete, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have the same competitive nature or drive as them. This extreme conditioning will last for two weeks to make the weak ones snap and lead to quitting (My coaches call this “Trimming the Fat”).
Along with the conditioning I’m going to be teaching the basics which are: proper stance, take downs and top and bottom.
Learning the rules and whole objective of the sport will be taught as the season goes on, because I don’t want to just tell the fishes don’t do this or that. I want them to learn from experience, so its sticks with them. The things I want the freshmen to take away from their first year are:  having a work ethic that is second to none, having a take-down of their choice that they've  mastered, and DON’T GET PINNED!!!!
